After completing two weeks of trials in Melbourne, Bas Evans and Nathaniel Souza Connell have progressed to the Phase Two trials for selection into the Vic Country Under 13 Squad.

The boys will also be joined by Henry Opie at the trials after being spotted by Wael Ghazzerdine in the AFS Championships in Bendigo where Henry performed brillantly throughout the day and for his squad.Henry will be attempting to stake a claim for a goalkeeping position in the squad.

Matthew Smith, Anthony Caminiti, Angus Boyd Law also trialled but were unsuccessful this year.

The boys will be attending trials over the next few weekends in Melbourne to progress to Phase Three Trials. Should they be successful the players will compete in the Friendship games to be held in Sydney in July.

Also the Head Coach of the Vic Country Squad is Wael Gharzzerdine who is Head Coach of AFS Zone Central .

Good Luck for the rest of the trials.

Carlo Cirillo of the Under 15 boys was awarded the Mallee Sports Assembly Junior Encouragement Award at the annual Mallee Sports Assembly Sports Star Of the Year Awards on Friday evening.

The award caps off a fantastic year for Carlo, which has seen him gain his first selection into the Under 13 Victoria Country Squad that participated in the 2007 Friendship Games in Sydney. His consistent performances for his team saw him selected in the Select 11 at the conclusion of the tournament recognising the efforts of the best 11 players at the games across all states.

The award is sponsored by McDonalds and is aimed at recoginising junior athletes for the outstanding individual achievements in the Mallee region. Carlo was chosen ahead of a competitive field of bright junior athletes from a range of sports including golf and basketball.

Congratulations Carlo from all coaches and players of the Mallee Zone.
